In general, body language can be broken down into two general categories: distance-increasing and distance-reducing. The posture can indicate an indifference, acceptance, or even desire for interaction, or else the posture can say “don’t come any closer” or even “go away.” For example, a play solicitation posture is a distance-reducing display while a cat standing stiff legged and displaying piloerection (hair standing on end) is clearly requesting an increase in distance.  The Guinness Book revealed on Thursday, September 8, the new stars of the 2017 world records. Among them, there is Ludo, a cat of 1, 18 meters long. Ludo, of his little name, is a maine coon. A breed of cats well known for its large size. But this hairball, native to Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England, has exceptional proportions: 118.33 centimeters long, nothing but that! Kittens are cute. I mean really, really cute. Whenever I bring a kitten on television with me, just about everyone on the set has to come by for a closer look. Kittens are definitely smiling magnets, but before you fall in love with that adorable little bundle of fur, take the time to understand what’ll be required of you as the owner of a kitten. You need to kitten-proof your home if you decide on a youngster. You have to patrol for dangling electrical cords, dangerous cleaners, poisons, etc. (Even if you decide on an adult cat you’ll have to safeguard him from these things as well, but kittens seem bound and determined to get into trouble.) Before teaching your cat to jump over a pole, you’ll need the right prop. In this case, the prop is a simple pole. You can be innovative when finding the perfect pole for your cat. A wooden dowel of 1 to 2 inches in diameter will work. Hollow cardboard tubes used for wrapping paper are also great for this trick. The first object I converted into a jumping pole was a cardboard tube that I wrapped with leopard-spotted paper for effect. It was perfect. HOW TO EXAMINE THE EYES The eye examination should be done in a dark room using a single light source, such as a flashlight, and a magnifying glass. Shaking hands is an entertaining and impressive trick. Not too many people can boast of walking up to a cat, extending a hand, and having it met with a paw. It is a fun trick to teach, though it may take a few sessions until your cat can successfully perform it. Before learning to shake hands, your cat needs to be able to sit on cue. Teaching your cat to shake hands can be accomplished through a few clicker techniques. After cuing her into a sit, watch her. If your cat happens to raise her right paw up, capture the movement with a click and then immediately give her a treat. In clicker-speak, this is called capturing behavior.  It’s a way of reinforcing a naturally occurring behavior without a prompt or cue. Each time she raises her paw, click and treat her. To reintroduce some threatened species, Australia will build an impassable fence to keep cats away, accused of destroying endemic wildlife in the country. Australia has launched the site of an insurmountable fence by wild cats in order to surround a huge area where the species decimated by this predator introduced two centuries ago by European settlers will be reintroduced.     This fence will make it possible to create a refuge of 69,000 hectares northwest of Alice Spring, in the desert "outback". In parallel, hundreds of Wildcats will be caught and killed. Artificial respiration is an emergency procedure used to exchange air in an unconscious cat who is not breathing. Heart massage is used when no heartbeat can be heard or felt. When heart massage is combined with artificial respiration, it is called cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). When a cat stops breathing, heart function soon also stops, and vice versa. It is therefore important to know both aspects of CPR. One person can perform CPR, but it is easier if two people are available. One does the breathing and the other does the heart massage. We can plainly see the cat’s origins as a predator of small rodents in its remarkable hearing abilities remarkable both in the range of sounds it can hear and in pinpointing the source of the sound. The cat is hearing range extends two octaves higher than ours, into the region that because we cannot hear it we refer to as ultrasound. This extended range enables cats to hear the ultrasonic pulses bats use to orient themselves while flying in the dark, and the high-pitched squeaks of mice and other small rodents. Cats can also tell different types of rodents apart by their squeaks. In addition to this sensitivity to ultrasound, cats can hear the same full range of frequencies we can, from the lowest bass notes to the highest treble. Cats also show little interest in color; among mammals, color seems a unique primate, especially human, obsession like dogs, cats have only two types of cones and see only two colors, blue and yellow; in humans, we call this red-green color blindness. To cats, both red and green probably look grayish. Moreover, even colors they can distinguish seem to be of little relevance to them.  Their brains contain only a few nerves dedicated to color comparisons, and it is difficult to train cats to distinguish between blue and yellow objects. The wild ancestors of the modern cat needed to maximize the time they could spend hunting, so their eyes enabled them to see the merest glimmer of light. We may easily overlook the simple fact that cats live in a world that is subjectively speaking quite distinct from ours. We share just enough overlap between our different perceptions of the world to be able to relate to one another, each species having evolved its senses to fit its lifestyle. It is unreasonable to consider cats’ abilities as inferior or superior to our own. Biologists abandoned the idea of one species being “superior” to another decade ago, though cat owners may suspect that their cats feel otherwise. We now consider each species as having evolved to fit a particular way of life; cats are good at being cats, because their ancestors evolved sense organs and brains to suit that role.
